Silo Butt Painting

About this Project

Contract Objective

Develop a cost-effective method for corrosion control of a coke storage silo. Rabcon inspection revealed that the silo welded butts had started to break down. Rabcon objective was to treat the corroded butt sections only whilst maintaining the integrity of the main strake (wall) protection coating.

Methodology

All preparation and painting were performed from an EWP. Corroded areas were masked with blast tape. Corroded areas were fully blasted, and a holding coat was applied. Final coat was applied after all areas were prepared.

Result

Major cost savings were achieved due to minimal labour and equipment needed to extend the life of the existing coating on the silo.
